# Create your DEX

This page walks through the path from a name to a live DEX. It costs nothing.

## Before you start

Start with a name for your DEX, 1 to 64 characters. You can preview without a wallet.

To publish, you need a browser-extension or WalletConnect-supported wallet. It becomes your owner wallet. Use one you control long-term.

1. **Step 1**

### Name and preview it

   Go to [app.floatout.xyz/new](https://app.floatout.xyz/new). Enter a display name that is 1 to 64 characters long. This is the brand traders see. Preview it on the trading frontend and select a theme preset.

   A preview does not reserve a name or publish a site. Availability is checked again when you create it.

   The console derives a URL name (the slug) from your display name. The slug uses lowercase letters and hyphens. Edit it before you create your DEX.

   The slug is permanent once you create your DEX. The display name, logo, and colors can change later.

2. **Step 2**

### Claim it

   Connect your wallet with a browser extension or WalletConnect. Sign one message to prove you control the wallet.

   The signature costs no gas. It is not a transaction. It cannot move funds and cannot grant an approval.

   This wallet becomes your owner wallet. It is the only wallet that can change your DEX.

3. **Step 3**

### Create it

   Publish your DEX at `<slug>.floatout.trade`. The name and theme selected in the preview carry into your published site.

   Nothing on this path touches payments. There is no payment method to enter, no code to write, and no company details to submit.

4. **Step 4**

### Make it yours

   In the console, set your branding: name, logo, colors, and copy. Each change publishes to your live DEX in about a minute.

   Starter also gives you design, navigation toggles, social links, media, SEO, tracking, legal texts, restrictions, integrations, and a custom domain. Your fee schedule stays fixed at the platform defaults until you activate earnings.

5. **Step 5**

### Share the link

   Use the share panel after publication. Edit the invitation and copy your site URL. Explain your fees and where members can get help.

   Send `<slug>.floatout.trade` to traders. The console counts volume, traders, and builder fees as they trade.

   On Starter, those builder fees go to Floatout. [Activate earnings](/guides/activate-earnings) routes them to your own contract instead.

## Limits on Starter

- Currently 2 DEXes per owner wallet.
- A DEX with no traffic for 30 days is paused. The console shows a notice and a one-click Resume.
- A DEX paused for 90 days is decommissioned. Its name stays reserved to your wallet for 90 more days.
- Activated DEXes are never paused automatically.
- A paused or decommissioned DEX returns "not found" to visitors. Nothing is deleted.
- Starter DEXes show a "Powered by Floatout" label in the footer. Activation removes it.
